Protesters in Syntagma square-Athens
Unprecedented demonstrations have disrupted parades by the military and school children, which were held for the national celebration of « Ochi Day » on Oct 28th 2011.
Most of the austerity measures are unfair and inefficient. The material world blossom while the spiritual decline. I am not afraid of the crisis: The brave dies once, the coward repeatedly...
I am 48 years old. I have already felt the aftermaths on my job. Even though I work in a "wealthy" company, as a quality control manager, they lowered my salary with the crisis excuse. My future is insecure and if I was younger, I would look for a job abroad. My daughter is 18 years old. I am very concerned about her future. How can she live earning just 300-400€? If she has a job!!! I cannot answer to her question " why do I have to study if there is no hope of having a job". Can you answer?...

Argyro-Vasistas company director
I am 33 years old and I am theatre director and occasionally an actress. Since two years now, the cultural grants have been cut off except for big cultural institutions. Officially, the system works, but in reality it's a matter of time. Last year, our annual subvention request has been endorsed… we still wait.
A lot of young artistes leave Greece.
As far as I am concerned, I considerer it a duty to stay in Greece but I can afford this choice due to the fact that I have been playing in France...
Demonstration in Athens-17 Nov 2011
Demonstration in commemoration of the university students uprising on Nov 17th 1973. During the Greek military junta of 1967–1974, Papadopoulos who was at the helm of the junta sent the army to suppress the student strike at the National Technical University of Athens. Several youth were killed and thousands were injured.
Protester dog Loukanikos-Athens
Protesters were out on the streets on Nov 3rd 2011. In backdrop, G. Papandreou has abandoned his referendum on the bailout plan for both Greece and Eurozone. That plan appears to have backfired, with calls for him to stand down and defections from his party.
Anna-University of Athens
I am 24 years old and hold a degree of Bachelor of History. I will likely get my Master abroad (probably in France)... and become a researcher. My mother spurs me to go abroad, finish my studies and find a job… I don't want to flee my country... unfortunately, I might have no choices. Owing to the crisis, more than 50% of the students have to get a part-time job to help the family.... The technical university from Athens will shut down...dumbing down the university quality.....
I am 23 years old and I finished my photography studies. I am looking for a job in photography but I cannot find one. 2 years ago, seemingly it was easier… much easier. I attend to the demonstrations to express my disagreement and my anger about the situation but honestly... it will change nothing... even the next election... I would really like to stay in Greece but I am not sure to be able, maybe I should go abroad... I have to find a way to survive...
Syntagma square-Athens on Oct 28th
Protester arrested at Syntagma square. / Manifestant arrêté place Syntagma
In 2009, I lived in Australia, so, come back in Greece is a deliberate decision.
I opened my nutritionist dietician business. I work in a health centre and in university as a lactation councillor and even if I don't get paid by university, when I see my advices have a very positive influence on people, I find it very fulfilling. Therefore, it isn’t just a money matter. On the other hand, in this faltering economy, see a nutritionist dietician can appear as a shallow approach or as a privilege...

I have really lost hope for the future...
Everybody has been touched by the crisis… how people interact with each other: you can see people argue in banks, in bus, etc. The working conditions are going really bad. A couple of months ago, one major client of our company simply stopped to pay, as a result of which our company stopped paying us. So, I forewarned my landlord that I was going to leave the flat.
I hope that I will get my income. If he can't pay me he will have to fire me...
I am 45 years old. I work in a photo gear office since 11 years, a full time job. My salary is 1000 euros and my rent is 420 euros. I have not been paid since 7 months. If they have my agreement, my full time job will be substitute by a part time job... with the corresponding wage . Most probably, the company might shut down... in a close future. I try to find something else but the labour market is crippled in Greece... bleak outlook...
Demonstration-Athens-Nov 17th 2011
The protestors are headed toward the U.S. Embassy owing to their past support for the « Black Colonels ». Once they reach the place, there have always clashes between the demonstrators and the police.
I predict that most of the Greeks, mainly the youngest, will go abroad in order to find a work. Some people won't even stand this situation... because they might have nothing to do... no job... no future... Most of the Greeks are committed to their country. We will have to work to overhaul this country because we do love this country.
In this neighbourhood, Piraeus, this is the first time that you can see people scavenge for food. I am not talking about vagrants but people who have family...
Stavros, movie director-Athens
I am 30 years old. I have been working as a set designer for the cinema the last 6 years. I also carried out a short film.
This crisis is something that has been designed and constructed in order to dumb down the workers stance, like it was in the past. It’s not an accident. For some people this situation is very profitable... those who control the financial markets. I had never expected that the Greek government might be so ridiculous and disrespectful towards his own population. They have...
